Greetings fellow Hams.

 

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came to the December
Meeting / Christmas Party. It was great to see old friends and new ones.

 

A Big thanks goes out to Jim Rinehart K9RU and Mark Burke W9MGB for
co-coordinating this event.  A big thanks to Dave Miller K9RTT for the
chili!  The food surpassed my expectations and I doubt anyone left hungry -
thanks to all who brought such delicious food!  And a special thanks to
those members who brought their families!  We also greatly appreciate those
who helped move all those tables before and after the meeting.

 

Lastly, we appreciate everyone being good sports during Jeopardy.  The Final
Jeopardy question was a doosey and we are still discussing what the right
answer is.  And that made me think, lets revisit the Final Jeopardy question
in January.  Spend some time between now and the January meeting analyzing
the question.  Was their missing information?  Was the information provided
not precise enough?  And ultimately, what is the correct answer and how do
we go about obtaining it.  If anyone feels really confident in doing this,
I'd like a volunteer to walk us through how to solve the Final Jeopardy
question as our Training Vignette in January (10 minutes or less).

FINAL JEOPARDY

 

A Kenwood TS-2000 capable of 100 watts on 146.52 MHz is set to 50 watts.
The antenna port is connected to a diplexer with a  1db insertion loss by a
1 foot piece of LMR-400 cable.

 

The antenna side of the diplexer is connected by 50 feet of LMR-400 cable
which has a loss of 1.44 db per 100 feet.

 

The coax is then connected to a Comet GP-9 antenna that has a gain of 8.5
dbi at 146.52 Mhz.

 

What is the effective radiated power?
