Attention, Extras:
If you’ve ever wanted a 1 x 2 call from 9-land, an unusually large number of them (8, to be exact) will be coming available between now and the end of April. Your chances of getting one will depend on how much competition you have, whether you file on the right date, and how lucky you are.
The most important rule is to file 2 years and one day after the call expires. In other words, if the call you want expired on March 3, 2018, you should file for it on March 4, 2020.
A chart showing soon-to-be-available 1 x 2 calls from the 9th District can be found here: http://www.ae7q.com/query/list/GenLicAvail.php?REGION=9
Want to know how the vanity call process works? If you’d really like to dive into the weeds, this page describes everything you’d ever care to know and more: http://www.ae7q.com/query/text/Vanity.php

So ... here are the upcoming choices, along with the exact dates you should file if you’re interested in taking a shot at them:
K9IF – File for it on Feb. 27 (This Thursday!)
N9OC – March 12
N9HM – March 19
W9WH – March 21
W9LF – March 25
K9AV – April 9
W9SV – April 21
W9US – April 29 (Very cool call!)
Other 1 x 2 calls, such as K9TI, K9XE and K9OK, are listed as coming available in April and May, but are marked in red on the AE7Q page to signify that the calls are “canceled but not yet available.” This may indicate an administrative snafu or other issue delaying the release of the calls. In any case, my best advice is to keep checking the AE7Q site (and perhaps even contact the FCC) if you’ve got your heart set on one of them.
Happy hunting!
73,
Brian, W9IND
